McCully, 55, well-known Randolph County resident for 20 years, twelve of which he was county school superintendent, committed suicide about 3 o'clock this morning in the garage at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Raymond Kroggel, 109 Elizabeth Street. Although no note nor any other message to his family had been discovered, friends thought that poor health and financial worries were responsible for Mr. McCully death. About nine months ago he suffered a severe attack of rheumatism. It had bothered him considerably since, but yesterday he seemed unusually happy members of the family said. VACATION TRIP PLANNED The body was discovered when Mr. and Mrs. Kroggel awoke early this morning to start on a vacation trip to Colorado. They arose about 3 o'clock in order to get an early start, and discovered that Mr. McCully was not in his room. A search of the house and porches was without avail. When Mr. Kroggel went to the garage he heard heavy breathing and found his father-in-law Mr. McCully had shot himself with a .22 caliber target rifle. the bullet entered just above and to the front of the right ear and emerged from a similar position rear the left ear. He lived only a few minutes. Mr. Kroggel believes he heard the shot while shaving. but time did not attach any significance to it. Mr. McCully had only recently returned to Moberly from Excelsior Springs and had been selling savings and loan bonds for Howell-Switzer Co., during the past two weeks.
