Adison Harrel Dean was the second child and only son of the four offspring of Celo Dean and Edith Della Harrel Dean. His sister Lottie was born prior to Oklahoma statehood and he was their first child born after Oklahoma becoming a state. He was named for his Grandfather George Addison Dean and his mother's maiden name was his middle name. He started school using his middle name, Harrel. A schoolmate, George Adamson was unable to pronounce his "R" and the name came out "Hell". George said he was embarrassed and called him "Boy". That name stuck and he was addressed as "Boy" by any one who knew him in the community. This followed him well into his adulthood. He was a hard and willing worker on his father's ranch where he wrangled cattle and broke horses to ride. He had many a colorful story about his Uncle John and him taking broncs to the sandy South Canadian River bottom to wear them out in the sand. That way they didn't buck as well or fight as long. On April 14, 1932, he was united in marriage to Ruby Mae Adamson. To this union were born two children, Ruby Fae Dean and Joe Adison Dean. They lived in a "dugout" home which was dug out of the side of a hill on his parent's land. His wife, Ruby passed away from complications from childbirth on December 23, 1935. His second wife was Lily Marie Doane. They were married April 18, 1939. To them were born three children, George Clay Dean, Fay Yvonne Dean and Clinton Dale Dean. Clay was born in the dugout, delivered by Dr. Clay. Mr. Dean was a self-taught automobile mechanic, a craft that came easily to him and by which he made his living for many years.
