Bio

Leah Margaret Thornton Larson, 93, of Lehi, died September 5, 1990 in Bountiful. She was born February 10, 1897 in Provo, a daughter of Alexander and Elizabeth Shipley Thornton. She married Claude V. Shurtleff in 1916. They were later divorced. She married Louis Leonard Larson in 1922; the marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple in 1922. He died January 8, 1972. She spent the first eight years of her life in Payson, Utah; her father working as a station agent and telegraph operator for Union Pacific. In 1905 the family moved to Pleasant Grove, where she graduated from high school and attended Brigham Young Academy in Provo. She had a fond appreciation for music, studying the violin and piano. She was a member of the LDS Church having served in the Primary, Relief Society and Young Women's organizations. She is survived by three sons and three daughters, Max T. Larson, American Fork; Stanley Louis Larson, Bountiful; Alex Leonard Larson, Kaysville; Mrs. Wendell (Anna Beth) Gillman, Fairbanks, Alaska; Mrs. Harrison (Kathleen) Farnes, Farmington; Mrs. Clayton (Leah Gene) Rostimly, Des Moines, Iowa; 17 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a brother, Rollo Thornton. Services will be Wednesday, 11 a.m., at the Lehi Sixth Ward, 120 West 200 South, where friends may call one hour prior to services. Burial will be in the Pleasant Grove City Cemetery, under the direction Olpin Family Mortuary, Pleasant Grove. (Obituary printed in the Deseret News September 10, 1990.)
