Bio

Elmer A. Novacek, 79, of Schuyler, passed away Friday, Sept. 16, 2011, after a courageous battle with colon cancer. Funeral Mass will be 10 a.m. Monday at St. Augustine Catholic Church in Schuyler. Visitation will be 2-5 p.m. today at Svoboda Funeral Home North Chapel followed by a 7 p.m. rosary at St. Augustine Church. Visitation will continue from 9:15-9:45 a.m. Monday at Svoboda Funeral Home North Chapel. Burial will be in Schuyler Cemetery. Elmer was born on a farm in Butler County on Jan. 11, 1932, to Adolph A. and Emma (Hamsa) Novacek. He attended Butler County District #1 and Schuyler High School. On Nov. 20, 1954, Elmer married Catherine Jedlicka at St. Mary's Catholic Church at Wilson (rural Schuyler). He farmed his entire life until his health failed and he moved to Schuyler in 1992. Elmer is survived by his wife Catherine, of Schuyler; daughters: Janice Novacek of Lincoln, Sharon (Karl) Kovar of David City; sons: Dennis (Renee) Novacek of David City, Larry (Elaine) Novacek of Linwood; sister: Arlene (Ben) Fricke of David City; brothers: Adolph J. (Joan) Novacek of Schuyler, Marland (Phyllis) Novacek of Linwood; and seven grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents. Memorials are suggested to donor's choice or family's wishes.
