Marland Novacek, 84, of Linwood, died Wednesday, April 16, 2025, at Brookstone (David Place) David City. Mass of Christian Burial Monday, April 21, 2025 10:30 A.M. Divine Mercy Parish, St. Augustine's Catholic Church, Schuyler Rev. Jairo Congote, Celebrant Visitation Sunday 5-7 P.M. with 7P.M. Knights of Columbus Rosary at Church Visitation Monday one hour prior to Mass, at Church Committal at Holy Cross Cemetery Lunch following committal at Church Hall Marland Novacek was born on September 21, 1940, to Adolph and Emma (Hamsa) Novacek at Edholm, Nebraska. He attended school at the Butler County District 1 and graduated from Marietta High School in 1958. On June 22, 1963, he was united in marriage to Phyllis Reznicek at St. Wenceslaus Church in Dodge, Nebraska. Marland was a farmer all his life. He enjoyed working in his shop where he remodeled and built his machinery. He was most proud of his faith. His faith helped through many medical issues. Anyone new he met always left as a friend. He Always looked on the bright side of things. He attended most of the grandkid's activities and enjoyed having the great grandchildren around. He loved cruising the backroads of Nebraska in his 38' Ford and making new friends participating in car shows. He was a member of St. Augustine's Church serving on the parish council. He served as a 3rd and 4th degree Knight of Columbus. Marland held many local and state offices. He was awarded Knight of the Year and Family of the Year. He served District 1 School Board for 13 years, was a member of the local FFA Alumni, Linwood Rural Fire District for 17 years, as well as the Butler County Farm Bureau for 24 years. Marland is survived by his wife, Phyllis of Linwood, children: Ann (Pat) Benes of Dwight, Jim (Connie) Novacek of David City, Karen (Marion) Freudenburg of Madison, 13 grandchildren, 30 great grandchildren, sisters-in-law: Catherine Novacek of Schuyler and Joan Novacek of Columbus, several nieces, nephews, and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, and brothers: Adolph J. and Elmer Novacek, sister and brother-in-law, Arlene and Ben Fricke.
