John Abner Smith was born in 1849/1850 in Alabama or Itawamba Mississippi to Newman Smith and Mary Ann "Harris" Smith see A. John Smith Itawamba Mississippi 1850 Census. He moved to Texas Burleson County in the 1850's. He married Patsy Melissa Jones in Texas. They were living in Miliam County Texas in the 1870 Census Lucy Smith 2 yrs. old and John Smith 7 months old. They were living in Miliam County Texas in the 1880 Census with Lulu Smith age 1 year old. John "JA"and Patsy "PM" were living in Evant Coryell County Texas in the 1900 Census with Dock Alfred "DA" Smith 19 yrs. old W. L. William Lee Smith 13 yrs. old and Effie Smith 12 yrs. old Effie Smith Avant. John Abner Smith's grandfather was Abner Smith who moved to Texas in what was to become Burleson County about 1834.
