A memorial service celebrating the life of Claraetta Louise Dikes Holcomb, age 82, will be held at 6 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 30, 2004, at Church of Christ, 667 Charles St., New Iberia, La. Ministers Ken Wright and Walton Hook will officiate. Mrs. Holcomb will be laid to rest at Pioneer Cemetery in Graham with a graveside memorial at 5 p.m. Friday, Dec. 31, 2004. Mrs. Holcomb passed away at 11 p.m. Monday, Dec. 27, 2004, at Iberia Medical Center. Louise was a "lady" in the highest degree who had a twinkle in her eye, a smile on ehr face adn lived her Christian beliefs by having her hands extended to help others. She was a woman of prayer who spoke to her Lord constantly for her family to live in a way that would be pleasing to God. At her last good-byes, she would ask us to be sweet and she would see us "by and by," which is referring to heaven in one of her favorite songs, "In the Sweet By and By." Louise was a woman who loved God, her family and her flower garden. In the last three months, she lived in the nursing home and was unable to work in the garden, so she took up singing in public. Her words did not always make sense to us,, but we knew she was singing a Christian song, which was her way of giving flowers to others. Mrs. Holcomb is survived by her children, Dee Wayne Holcomb of Athens, Raleigh M. Holcomb of Allen, Wash., Sandra H. Meaux and Hardie M. Holcomb, both of New Iberia, La. Louise, as she was called, was a very proud grandmother of seven and a great-grandmother of 17, who called her "G.G." She is also survived by three sisters, Eupha Franklin, Autavee Hartney and Virginia Williams, all in Texas; and two half-siblings, James Dikes of Colorado and Wanda Coombes of Athens. The family has requested no flowers, and instead asks memorials be made in her name to her favorite charity and ministry, Acadia Christian Academy, 1209 Parkview Drive, New Iberia, La., 70563. Evandeline Funeral Home, New Iberia, La., is in charge of the arrangements. Source: The Athens Review
