Christopher N. Hiller, 81, of Lincoln died Sunday April 20, 2003 at his home in Lincoln following a lengthy illness. Services are 11:00 am Wednesday, April 23, 2003 at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Bellwood. Visitation will be on Tuesday from 3-5 pm at McKown Funeral Home in Columbus and after 6:30 pm at St. Peter's Church in Bellwood with a Vigil service at 7:30 pm Tuesday, also at the Church. Interment will be in St. Peter/Mary Cemetery in rural Bellwood. Memorials are suggested to St. Elizabeth's Hospice or made to the wishes of the family. Chris was born November 8, 1921 at the family home 2 3/4 miles northeast of Bellwood to Peter and Rose (Hilger) Hiller. He was raised and lived in the Bellwood area until 1956, attending Marietta School. He married Lois Treadway on March 4, 1946 at St. Peters Catholic Church in Bellwood, celebrating their 57th anniversary this year at home with their family. Chris was a farmer and carpenter in the Bellwood area until they moved to St. Edward, NE in 1956. He continued to farm and do carpentry work there until 1985 and moved to Nelson, NE. They lived in Nelson for about 5 years where Chris worked for his son at Hiller Lumber in Nelson for a while and then worked for a farmer. In December of '89 they moved to Columbus where they lived until May 2000 when they moved to Lincoln. While living in Columbus he worked for CK Planing Mill, Quail Run Golf Course, and at Columbus High School as a janitor. In Lincoln Chris worked for Lincoln Public Schools as a janitor until his health got worse. Chris was a very loving husband, father, and grandfather as his family meant so much to him. He was an avid baseball player, coach, manager, and later on just a fan. He also played softball, loved to fish, and woodworking. He enjoyed playing the slots, the yearly trip to Vegas and in later years to the casinos around here. He liked gardening and having a nice yard and flowers.
