Emily Drozd Maxa Emily Drozd Maxa, 96, died peacefully in her home in Austin, Texas on July 21, 2010. Born in Penelope, Texas, on June 11, 1914, to Joseph A. and Mary Parma Drozd, she met her sweetheart, Leon, while living in New Prague, Minnesota. They were married in Ennis, Texas on June 8, 1941, and in 1947, moved the family to Austin. A devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, Emily poured her heart and soul into her family and everything she loved. She made time for countless activities for others, a mother for all and always a mother. She was an honored IRS employee. She loved flowers, especially roses. She was an accomplished seamstress. She loved music, and her books. Her Czech heritage brought passion to her buchta, kolaches, and zwieback. Bunny cakes were her specialty. She was a kind and gentle spirit, she loved quiet, and delighted in finding joy in little things. She loved sitting on the back porch with Leon and Max, working their garden, canning, splitting wood, and watching baseball. She loved life, her Catholic faith, and carried in her heart a fervent and unending devotion to The Blessed Mother and The Sacred Heart. Emily is survived by her loving husband of 69 years, Leon A. Maxa; five children, Carol Horyza and husband Pat; Marianne Morris and husband Carter; Anthony and wife Shari; Theresa Peterson and husband, Ron; David and wife Chris; six grandchildren; twelve great grandchildren; two great- great grandchildren; and their precious pet Max.
