Josefa Havlikova was born in Rokytno, Nove Mesto, Moravia, which was then part of the Austria-Hungary Empire. She was the daughter of Jan and Vincencia nee Novotny Havlik. She married Jan Slama in Tri Studne, Nove Mesto, Moravia on May 13, 1873. John (Jan) Slama was a widower with six children at the time of their marriage. John and Josephine had a daughter, Frances, in Tri Studne before they immigrated to America in 1878. They settled first in Wilber, Nebraska where their youngest son, Frank, was born. In the 1890's they moved to Omaha where they lived the rest of John's life. John died in 1913. After the death of John Slama, Josephine married Vaclav Roh of Abie, Nebraska on August 28, 1917. She died in Abie and was buried beside her first husband, John Slama, in the Bohemian National Cemetery in Omaha.
