Bio

Graveside service for Dan Turman, 85, of Tyler, will be held on Tuesday, Aug. 25, 2009, at 10:30 a.m. at Hawthorne Cemetery near Tyler with the Rev. Park Robertson officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Stewart Family Funeral Home. Mr. Turman passed away Saturday, Aug. 22, 2009, at Briarcliff Nursing Home in Tyler. He was born Aug. 20, 1924, in Tyler to the late Floyd and Wilma Gregory Turman. He was a lifelong residence of Tyler and retired from Broadway Furniture store after 35 years of service. He also owned several used car dealership in Tyler and was a former member and deacon of Southern Oaks Baptist Church. He loved spending time with his family. Mr. Turman was preceded in death by his wife, Margueritte Turman, five brothers and one sister. Dan is survived by his loving family including his son, Mike Turman and wife Vivian of Tyler; daughters, Kay Colyer and husband Patrick of Shreveport, La., Kathy Hubner and husband Richard of Fort Worth; grandchildren, Tina Foster and husband Toby of Tyler, M'Shell Turman of Tyler, Amy Vetter of Greensboro, N.C., Kimberly Vetter of Baton Rouge, La., Katy Stephens and husband Chad of Fort Worth, Sara Moore of Fort Worth, Cory Turman and wife Amy of Longview; seven great-grandchildren; brothers, Gene Turman and wife Betty of Elgin, Joe Turman and wife Gloria of Guntersville, Ala., Larry Turman and wife Betty of Grandbury; sister Gayle Smith and husband Don of Longview. Vistation is scheduled from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Monday at Stewart Family Funeral Home, 7525 Old Jacksonvill Highway, Tyler 75703. Memorials in honor of Dan Turman may be made to Noonday Baptist Church, 16701 CR 196, Tyler, 75703.
