Athens Weekly Review Nov. 2, 2004 Annie Starek Services of remembrance were held for Annie Starek, 96, of Kemp, at Anderson Clayton Bros. Funeral Home in Kemp on Tuesday, Nov. 2, 2004, at 2 p.m., with the Rev. Larry Porch officiating. Interment followed at the Aley/Kings Cemetery in Henderson County. She was born in Czechoslovakia, Feb. 28, 1908, to Joseph and Monika ,Balajka. Mrs. Starek died in Corsicana Oct. 30, 2004. She married Frank Starek, Jr. on Nov.10, 1926. They shared 66 years together, living mostly in Ellis and Henderson counties. She was a homemaker, loved her gardening and had the prettiest garden around, with lots of flowers. She loved every kind of flower. Mrs. Starek also loved fishing. If anyone mentioned fishing, she was ready to go. She holds the record in the family for catching the biggest fish at 87 years old, a 55 pound yellow cat, caught in the pond by her home. She loved to cook and her kitchen always smelled of fresh yeast rolls, donuts and cinnamon rolls. She enjoyed having friends stop by, always offering them a sweet roll or something. She will be missed by all. Her husband, Frank, preceded her in death in 1993. Brothers, Paul and Pete Balajka; sisters, Mary Bistricky and Emily Stanek; and two granddaughters, Linda Kay Starek Thompson and Rhonda Starek, also preceded her. Survivors include daughters and sons-in-law, Frances and Don Sheppard of Corsicana, Joan and Ray Stewart of Ennis, and Dorothy and Kenneth Baker of Kemp; sons and daughters-in-law, Jerry and Betty Starek of Kemp, and Richard and Cherris Starek of Mt. Vernon; 16 grandchildren, 36 great grandchildren; and 9 great great grandchildren. Pallbearers were Dennis Starek, Tracy Thompson, Larry Joe Starek, Keith Starek, Jamie Starek, and Scott Lamb. Honorary pallbearers were Dwayne Baker and Timmy Stewart.
