Interment will follow at Hewitt Cemetery in Wilson. Funeral services are under the care and direction of Alexander Funeral Home of Wilson. G C was born November 13, 1925, at Oil City, Okla., to the late Mr. John Patillo Roberts and Mrs. Manie Lee (Young) Roberts. He departed this life Sunday, August 14, 2011, at a Healthcare facility in Shenandoah, Texas. G C was raised in the Oil City area attending school at Wheeler. He joined the United States Navy in 1944 and served actively until 1946 on the USS Guadalupe. Returning home he soon married the former Ms. Juanita Marie Clark on May 18, 1948, at Gainesville, Texas. They shared many wonderful years together residing at Wilson while G C was employed in the oilfield for several companies as a Crude Oil Purchaser. He was employed for oil companies, Samedan, Fowler, Western Crude, Getty and lastly Texaco retiring from there in 1987. He and Juanita always enjoyed antiques, owning their own store in Wilson for many years, which was managed by Juanita. They loved looking for antiques at garage sales and flea markets. They attended the TNT auction every week at Mannsville, where they had made several friends. They also loved to travel in their retirement, visiting as far as Holland and Mexico on some of their excursions. Juanita preceded G C in death on September 13, 2010. Since then he and his canine companion, "Muffin" had enjoyed traveling, visiting friends and family. G C was a past member of the First Baptist Church of Wilson. Also preceding him in death were his parents; and siblings, Troy, Avis, Lloyd, Sim, Altas, Lucy, Hettie, Pascal and infant brother, Rass. Survivors include his three sons, Mark Roberts and wife, Peggy of Western Springs, Ill., Gary Roberts and wife, Kathy of The Woodlands, Texas, and Jeff Roberts and wife, Dana of Midland, Texas; brother, Charlie Roberts of Duncan; sister-in-law, Anna Cumpton of Wilson; eight grandchildren, Brian and wife, Cristen, Sarah and husband, Larry, Alex, Katie, Rebecca and husband, Mitchell, Geremy and Matthew; seven great-grandchildren, Jake, Riley, Nate, Tanner, Jett James, Tysen and Harrison; canine companion, "Muffin"; and numerous other family and friends. Casket bearers are grandsons, Brian Roberts, Alex Roberts, Matthew Roberts, Geremy Roberts and Mitchell Levy and extended family members, Boyd Salsbury and Jack Glazner. Honorary bearers are Jim Cumpton, Larry Cumpton, Jason Cumpton, John Cumpton and all of his daily coffee drinking buddies and staff of the Hideaway Grill and McDonalds of Ardmore. Family visitation will be this evening from 5-7 p.m. at Alexander Funeral Home in Wilson.
