Un-named newspaper, unknown date: Sudden End to W.F. Norton. Retired Conductor Succumbs In Heart Attach At Home. William F. Norton, well-known Sedalian, retired MKT railroad conductor and more recently engaged in the cola business, died suddenly of a heart attach at him home, 400 South Grand avenue about 10:45 o’clock Wednesday night. Mr. Norton has been at his place of business all day Wednesday, called on two friends who had been ill and during the early evening visited with friends on the porch at his home. He retired about 10 o’clock and soon thereafter complained to Mrs. Norton that he didn’t feel well. He sat on the edge of the bed and fell back, and Mrs. Norton phoned a physician, who arrived within a few minutes. He administered treatment, and, Mr. Norton rallied and seemed to be much better. The physician was preparing to leave when Mr. Norton became worse, asked “Is this the end?” and passed away. Mr. Norton, his wife and daughter, Miss Marian, returned a week ago from a three-weeks’ trip to Texas where he visited relatives he had not seen in many years. Injured in Wreck. The deceased was born in Janesville, Wis., January 12, 1870. He was about twelve years old when his parents moved to Sedalia, and he had resided here continuously since. When a young man he went into railroad work, and was advanced in the position of a conductor, on the MKT lines. While on duty as such he was injured in a wreck in 1927, and suffered injuries of such a nature that he was unable to continue with his railroad work, and was retired by the company. He continued his affiliation with the railroad men through the office of secretary and treasurer of the Order of Railway Conductors, which he had held for many years. After retiring from the railroad Mr. Norton engaged in the coal business, which he conducted successfully at 618 East Fifth street. On June 19, 1895, Mr. Norton was married in this city to Miss Josephine Roach, who with one daughter, Miss Marian, of the home survive him. He also leaves two sisters, Mrs. Robert Thomas and Mrs. Ann Furman, of Denison, Tex. Another sister, Mrs. Sarah Trippee, died in Long Beach, Calif., a year ago. Mr. Norton was a devout member of Sacred Heart church, of the Holy Name society of that church, and the Knights of Columbus. He was man devoted to his family, loved and respected by his friends, because of his kindness, thoughtfulness, and fair dealing. Few persons knew of the many calls made on the deceased to assist friends, not only materially, but by his counsel and advice, and no person was ever happier when doing something for his friends than was Mr. Norton.
