Rev. Malcolm M. Gwin married to Mary E. Carson in Tennessee in 1827. He became a Methodist minister in Texas in 1854. Malcolm had no children with his second wife, Lucinda Adams Mederis Gwin Benthal. It is believed that Malcolm's father's name was William Gwin; he is identified as Wm. Gwin, son of John Gwin living in Sumner County in the 1820s. Capt. William Gwin (b. 1744 d. 1827) and Hannah McComb Gwin (b. abt. 1756 d. 1841) cannot be the parents of Malcolm Gwin. (She would have been about 50 years old when Malcolm Gwin was born!). William Gwin, Jr. (the actual son of William Gwin and Hannah McComb) was born March 12, 1787 and died 1878. Thank you to Rox Ann Johnson for providing the tombstone inscription and contributing her photos of his tombstone. Photo of Malcolm M. Gwin courtesy of Noel Parsons, owner of the original photo, that he inherited from his mother, Leora Atkinson Parsons.
In memory of Rev. M. M. Gwin, born in Williamson Co., Tenn. Jan. 22, 1807. Died May 3D. 1885.
