September 22, 1960 - Yuma Pioneer BURIAL HERE FOR GENE SIGMON A car accident took the life of Gene Sigmon last week, when he and several other Navy boys approached a bad curve near Oak Harbor, Washington, losing control of the auto. Gene was rushed to the Bremerton Washington Naval Hospital with a crushed pelvis, where unsuccessful surgery was performed. The accident took place September 14, and he died five hours later on the same day. Gene was born to Cecil and Gertrude Sigmon on December 30, 1940 at Frannie, Wyoming. He attended grade school at Brush, Colorado, and received high school training at Crane, Texas. He attended the Odessa Texas College for one semester before entering the Navy on January 27, 1960. Besides his parents, he is survived by his brother, Wayne, now in the Navy and stationed at San Diego, California, and Keith, Allen and Gary, all of Orchard; his grandfather, S.E. Dillon of Deaver, Wyoming, and several uncles and aunts, including Mr. and Mrs. Eli Younker of Yuma. Services will be held Thursday morning at the Yuma Baptist Church with Rev. Fred Garvin officiating. Arrangements are by Morris Mortuary with interment in the Yuma Cemetery. Yuma service men will act as pall bearers, with Naval personnel from Denver in charge of the Military service. Pioneer obit donated by Arlene Glenn.
