Bio

Married Luna McNichols Feb. 21, 1904, in Yuma. __________ LONG ILLNESS ENDS IN DEATH FOR A. L. PETRIE Death Came at 7:30 Tuesday Morning; Funeral Will be Held Friday Afternoon From The Presbyterian Church Albert L. Petrie died at the Yuma hospital about 7:30 Tuesday morning, September 4, following a long illness. Death was caused from cancer, for which he had submitted to surgery several weeks ago in a Denver hospital. He was later brought to Yuma where he could receive care near his home. Funeral service will be conducted from the Presbyterian church at 2:00 o'clock Friday afternoon, September 7, with Rev. K. D. Moore officiating. Burial will be made in the Yuma cemetery with arrangements by Morris Mortuary. The following life sketch was prepared by the family. Albert LeRoy Petrie, son of William Petrie and Emily Comstock Petrie, was born near Stillman Valley, Ill., on December 12, 1878 and passed away at the Yuma Hospital on September 4, 1951. He was 72 years, 8 months, and 22 days of age. As a baby of 18 months he was taken to Fremont, Neb., by his parents, where he resided for seven years. In a covered wagon he came with his parents to Colorado when he was eight years old. He attended the public schools near his home, where he later met and married Luna L. McNichols in 1904. Mr. and Mrs. Petrie ranched near Eckley several years before moving to Yuma. Here he operated a lumber and feed store for many years, and later a service station. In later years he was in the real estate business. He leaves to mourn his passing his devoted wife, Luna; two sisters, Mrs. J. W. Weekly of Berkley, Calif., Mrs. Amy Miller of Wray; one brother, H. W. Petrie of San Gabriel, Calif.; 13 nieces and nephews; and other less near relatives, and a host of friends. His lively wit and ready smile will be missed by all who knew him.--Yuma Pioneer, Thursday, Sept. 6, 1951, Pg. 1
