Benjamin Wellington Ford was born January 19, 1874, at Carrollton, Ohio. When he was one year old his people moved to Pamplin City, Va., at which place he joined the M. E. church (South) at 14 years of age. He lived at Pamplin City until he was 17 years of age, then coming to Lincoln, Nebraska, he entered the service of the C.B. & Q. as clerk in the freight office. In 1896 he was united in marriage to Ida M. Hirschberger of Racine, Pennsylvania. To them two childen were born, George Wayne now twenty-two and Wilma A., age sixteen. His mother, who is 89 years old, was unable to attend the funeral. She still resides at Pamplin, Va. His father Alonzo N. DeFord, preceded him to the great beyond some 12 years since. He also leaves 4 brothers, Wallace N. DeFord of Pamplin, Va.; Frank DeFord of Delroy, Va.; Charles N. DeFord of Buckingham, Colorado and George U. DeFord of Havelock, Nebraska; three sisters, Mrs. Ed Shorter of Darlington Heights Va.; Mrs. Horace Pennock of Minerva, Ohio and Mrs. Samuel Williamson of Minerva, Ohio. Rev. Lewis conducted the funeral services which were held from the M. E. church at Seward. Interment was made in the Seward cemetery. Seward Independent Democrat, Seward, NE, Thurs, Sept 23, 1920
