Maurine Bateman Sell (no middle name) was my Aunt "Sis". She was the the 1st daughter and the 3rd and last child of James Monroe "Jim" Bateman and Annie Jane Simms Bateman. She married Ray Milton Sell, "Sell", the son of Robert Butler Sell and Maude Tiffin Elliott Sell, on Dec 30, 1951 in Abilene, TX, Taylor Co. They had a double wedding ceremony with her brother, L.F. "Ted" Bateman and Velma "Jean" Tucker Bateman. Sis and Sell had 3 sons and 1 daughter. She was loved by her family and missed by all. Jean Wallace Niece Bateman Family History Source: Obituary Maurine Sell Funeral services for Maurine Sell, 65, were held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, September 30, 1995, in the Main Street Church of Christ with Own Carr, minister, officiating. Burial was in Petersburg Cemetery by Freeman Funeral Home of Hale Center. Mrs. Sell died Thursday, September 28, 1995 in Methodist Hospital. She was born October 12, 1929 in Portales, NM, moved to Texas, attended school and graduated from McCaulley High School. She moved to Abilene in 1949 and was an employee at the State School. She married Ray Sell December 30, 1951 in Abilene, moved to Lubbock County in 1952 and to Petersburg in 1961. Mrs. Sell was an active member of the Church of Christ where she taught Sunday School and worked with Vacation Bible School. Survivors include her husband, Ray; one daughter, Tracy Hill of Bakersfield, CA; three sons, Troy & wife, Judy, and Jason, all of Lubbock, and Eric of Kingfisher, OK; two brothers, Harley and Ted Bateman, both of Abilene; and five grandchildren; Brooke & Clayton Hill; Zachary & Ethen Sell and Lauren Sell. Pallbearers were Chuck Allmon, Don Hegi, A. L. Mosley, Jr., Joe Porter, Mario Martinez and Ricky Mooney.
