July 19, 2011 Alice Carlen The Mt. Vernon Register-News Tue Jul 19, 2011 MT. VERNON — Alice "Nadine" Carlen, 85, of Bonnie, passed away at her home on Friday, July 15, 2011, surrounded by her family. Mrs. Carlen was born on October 19, 1925, in Coles County, the daughter of William Kinney and Zelma Laurene (Marble) Baker. She married Ramoth E. Carlen on April 23, 1944, and he preceded her in death on June 27, 2011. Mrs. Carlen was a homemaker. She loved to quilt and sew. She also attended the Ina Free Will Baptist Church. Surviving Mrs. Carlen are two sons, Dave (Marie) of Bonnie and John of Aurora; three grandchildren, Dave Jr. (Karen) of New Jersey, John Jr. (Jacque) of South Carolina and Donna (John) McWilliams of Bolingbrook; and ten great-grandchildren. She is also survived by three sisters, Melba VonLanken and husband George of Kentucky, JoAnne Halferty of Illinois, Joyce Palm and husband Lou of Arizona; and by one brother, Carrol Baker and wife Linda of Illinois. Mrs. Carlen was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, by two brothers, Bill Baker and Charles Baker and by one sister, Wanda Miyagawa. Funeral services will be held on Thursday at 11:30 a.m. at the Johnston Funeral Home in Ina with Brother Brad Ryan officiating. Burial will follow in the Kirk Cemetery in Ina. Visitation will be from 10 a.m to 11:30 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home. For those who wish, memorials may be made to the SSM Hospice of the Good Samaritan and will be accepted at the funeral home at any time.
