Melba Y. VonLanken, 89, Hopkinsville, died Sunday, June 24, 2018, at her home of natural causes. Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 21, 2018, at St. John’s Methodist Church. Immediate burial will be at Zion United Church of Christ in Atwood, Ill. Lamb Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. A native of Charleston, Ill., she was born Feb. 7, 1929 the daughter of the late William K. and Zelma Marble Baker. She had been a middle school teacher in the Christian County School Systems and was a private tutor. She was a member of St. John’s Methodist Church, the Dyslexia Association and was a volunteer at the Parkinson’s support group and English as a second language. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, George D. Von Lanken; and her sons, Kent K. Von Lanken and Kevin D. Von Lanken. Survivors include her son, Chris Von Lanken, Hopkinsville; her daughter, Carol Von Lanken, Lexington; her brother, Carroll Von Lanken, Joliet, Ill.; and her sisters, Zelma JoAnn Baker-Humes, Columbia, Mo., and Joyce Darlene Palm, Green Valley, Ariz.
