The Herald Democrat Sherman, Texas July 17, 2011 Shirley Thomasine Cupit entered into eternal salvation surrounded by her family on July 15, 2011, at Texas Health Presbyterian-WNJ. Our mother, known to most as Thomasine, was born on June 13, 1928, in Cannon, Texas to the parents of Mose and May Dicken Rigsby. Mama, as she was affectionately called by her children, resided in Van Alstyne or the immediate surrounding area her entire life. She attended Van Alstyne Public Schools and married our father Grover K. Cupit on March 8, 1947. She spent a major portion of her working career employed as a seamstress at Double B Manufacturing Co. in Van Alstyne. Even though her wages were small, she always made sure her kids had spending money. She loved garage sales, word search puzzles, and spending time with her grandchildren and great- grandchildren. She loved her family with all her heart and was always there with a big hug and a word of encouragement. She was a member of the Elmont Baptist Church. Mama leaves behind our dad and her husband of 64 years Grover K. Cupit, daughters Linda (Ted) Cherry of Navasota, TX, Connie Blankenship of Howe, Lori Stevens of Van Alstyne; sons Robert (Lynn) of Martinez, CA, William (Vicky) Cupit of Van Alstyne and stepson Kenneth (Sharon) Cupit of Van Alstyne. She was known as "Mema" by her grandchildren and they include Scotty Cupit of Waco, TX, Daniel Cherry of Washington, TX, Angela Dee of Yulee, Fl., Kayla Rogers of West, TX, Tara Meza of Anna, TX, Tamara Spencer of Harrod, Ohio, Brian Wallis of Howe, TX, Bethany BuShea of Palm Harbor, Fl., Amanda Endsley of Canyon, TX, Kevin Stevens of Prosper, TX, and Kelsea Stevens of Van Alstyne. She is also survived by 20 great-grandchildren as well as brothers Raphael Rigsby of Van Alstyne, Phil Rigsby of Greenville, TX and Johnny Rigsby of Haynesville, LA, as well as sister Mickey Hix of Tahlequah, OK. She was preceded in death by her parents, father and mother in-law Clara and Emmett Cupit, and brothers Billy, Ronald, and Everett Rigsby. She also leaves behind sister-in-laws Imogene Montgomery of Ft. Worth, Erma Cupit of Garland, Dot Rigsby of Van Alstyne, Lena Rigsby of Plano, Pat Rigsby of Denison, and Juanita Cupit of Weatherford. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews as well as very special friends Veda Davis and Sarah Burk. The family would like to thank the staff of Meadowbrook Care Center for the care they have given Mama the past 3 plus years. Mama sustained a severe brain injury on December 15, 2007, and although she had some memory issues, she never lost her sense of humor, nor her jovial and loving ways. Visitation will be held at Flesher Funeral Home in Van Alstyne on July 17 at 1 p.m. with funeral services to follow at 2 p.m. Services will be conducted by Bro Jim Poole. Interment will follow at Van Alstyne Cemetery. Scotty Cupit, Daniel Cherry, Brian Wallis, Kevin Stevens, Bruce Stevens, and John Meza will serve as pallbearers. John 14, verses 2-3 "In my father's house are many rooms; if it were not so, I would have told you. I am going there to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am." Mama, we love you. We miss you. And we will see you again one day.
