Bio

Grover K. Cupit entered into eternal salvation surrounded by his family on July 12, 2014, at Clyde Cosper Texas State Veterans Home in Bonham. Our Daddy, known to many as G.K., others as Skeet, and his grandchildren as Paw Paw, was born December 27, 1922, in Caddo, Ok to the parents of Emmett and Clara Bardwell Cupit. Our grandparents moved to Van Alstyne when our Daddy was a young boy and he spent most of his life living in Grayson County. He attended Van Alstyne Public Schools and served in the Army Air Corp during WWII stationed in the British West Indies. He married our mother Thomasine Cupit on March 8, 1947. She predeceased him on July 15, 2011. Others who have preceeded him in death include his parents, brothers Floyd, Lloyd, and Ray Cupit, as well as several nephews and a neice. Daddy's career began as a lineman working for Grayson-Collin Electric Co-op in 1947 and retiring as the construction foreman in 1985. He spent many long days, nights, and weekends working in various inclement weather conditions ensuring our rural neighbors in the Grayson/Collin area had electricity. Daddy and retirement were not a good match, so he returned to work in 1986 and worked approximately 18 more years for the Van Alstyne and Anna ISD's. He also had the privilege of coaching Van Alstyne Little League and Pony League baseball teams in the early 1960's as well as serving as Scoutmaster for Boy Scout Troup 44 in the mid 60's. Daddy was a member of Elmont Baptist Church. Surviving our Daddy include his daughters and sons, grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren as well as sister and numerous nephews and nieces. Funeral services will be held at Scoggins Funeral Home on Friday, July 18th at 11 AM with visitation beginning at 10 AM. Interment will follow at Van Alstyne Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be grandsons and great-grandsons.
