Services for Edith Tarpley Brown, 91, of Temple will be 11 a.m. today at Grace Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Kathy Vineyard and Dr. Thomas Allen officiating. Private burial will be in Bellwood Memorial Park in Temple. Mrs. Brown died Wednesday, July 13, at her home. She was born on Aug. 2, 1919, to Thomas Byron and Lula May Rambo Mobley in Celeste. In 1939, she married Melvin M. Tarpley in Frisco. He preceded her in death. In 1975, she married Vinson E. Brown. She was co-owner of Tarpley Electronics for 37 years, retiring in 1983. She was a member of Grace Presbyterian Church, where she served as an elder, and a member of Prime Time Ministry to assisted living facilities and nursing homes; Altrusa International of Temple, receiving the Altrusa International Lamplighter Award. She was honored on Jan. 16, 2002, as Edith Tarpley Brown Day for her service to the community through Altrusa. She served in Central Texas Chapter of Texas Electronics Association. She volunteered with Meals on Wheels. Survivors include a sister, Ruth Cave of Dallas. Memorials may be made to Grace Presbyterian Church or to Altrusa International of Temple. Scanio-Harper Funeral Home in Temple is in charge of arrangements.
