Methodist Minister & former President of OCU The Oklahoman, Mon-Tues, March 21-22, 1955: Dr Williamson, Retired College Official is Dead-- Dr Aaron George Williamson, 63, former president of Oklahoma City University, and prominent state Methodist minister, died in Wesley Hospital here late Sunday. He suffered a heart attack last Monday and another Saturday, followed by a fatal attack Sunday. Dr Williamson was president of the college here from 1934 until June 1941. He resigned to assume pastorate of the Francis Street Methofist Church in St Joseph, MO. He later went to the Missouri Methodist Church in Columbia, retiring in 1951. Upon retirement, Dr Williamson returned to Oklahoma City to make his home at 2524 NW 15. Born in Lincoln, NE, Dr Williamson attended Marionville Academy in Marionville, MO. He worked his way through college (Oklahoma City University) when it was in Guthrie, taking his BA degree in 1916. Following graduation, Dr Williamson attended Boston Universiy School of Theology for three years, taking his degree in 1919. He later received an honorary DD degree from Oklahoma City University here in 1925. During his career, Dr Williamson held pastorates in Methodist churches at Shawnee, Blackwell, Kansas City, MO, and Salina, KS, besides Wesley Methodist Church here which he served for two years prior to assuming presidency of the university. A longtime Mason, Dr Williams was also past president of the Lions Club here and a member of the Men's Dinner Club, the Westside Chamber of Commerce and Superintendent of Oklahoma City District of Methodist Churches. He belonged to Theta Kappa Nu and Theta Phi fraternities. Survivors include his wife, Dencie, of the home; three daughters, Mrs W. G. Grossman, Poughkeepsie, NY; Mrs Ruth Dowling, Indianapolis, IN; and Mrs Mary Lee Butzlaff, Minneapolis, MN; and one son, William G. Williamson, 2344 NW 33. There were also two sisters, Mrs Goldie Schetrompf, 1509 N. Kentucky; and Mrs Ethel Edie, Ashville, NC; two brothers, E. S. Williamson, Guthrie; and Glenn Williamson, Palestine, TX, and 12 grandchildren. (Guardian Funeral Home)
