Bio

Christine Fujan, daughter of Vaclav Svec and Marie Suda Svec, was born west of Milligan on February 13, 1886, and passed away at the Lincoln General Hospital in Lincoln on Wednesday, September 17, 1975, at the age of 89 years,, seven months and four days. She attended rural school in District No. 4. On February 26, 1906, she was united in marriage to Louis Fujan. They made their home on the farm one mile west of Tobias for 56 years. After the death of her husband in 1962, she moved to Tobias in 1963. One son, Jerome, was born to their union. He preceded his parents in death on May 29, 1953. Christine bore her crosses with uncomplaining patience, always appreciative of any kindness shown her. She was a kind and faithful wife and mother, whose friendly qualities will long be remembered by her many relatives, neighbors and friends. She was a member of Z.C.B.J. Lodge Krivoklot No. 79 of Tobias for more than half a century. She leaves to morn her passing, her sister, Mrs. Pauline Votipka of Geneva; daughter-in-law, Sylvia, Mrs. Hugh Hawkins of Tobias; a sister-in-law, Mrs. Helen M. Svec of Milligan; numerous nieces and nephews and many friends. Preceding her in death were her parents; husband, Louis; son, Jerome; and an infant grandson, Allan Jerome, on May 27, 1941; four brothers, Joseph, Frank, James and Emil Svec; five sisters, Agnes Tesar, Mary Soukup, Anna Soukup, Mollie Hamouz and an infant sister. Mrs. Fujan was honored by the American Legion Auxiliary as a Gold Star Sister, having lost brother, James in the service of his country during World War I. Funeral services were conducted from the Tobias Community Church on Saturday, September 20, 1975, with Rev. Ernest Horner officiating. Mrs. Joseph Capek and Mrs. Leslie Skrivanek sang "Beautiful Isle of Somewhere" in Czech and "How Great Thou Art" accompanied by Mrs. Robert Zeleny. Mrs. Helen Zavodsky spoke in behalf of Z.C.B.J. Lodge 74 of Tobias. A large number of relatives and friends accompanied the body to the Bohemian National Cemetery, where she was laid to rest beneath a beautiful blanket of floral tributes. Pallbearers were James Soukup, James Tesar, Bernard Svec, Louis J. Svec, Kenneth Francis and ElRoy Bartels. The Nebraska Signal September 25th, 1975 Contributor: M. Jensen Seggerman (47078678)
