The Oklahoman, Sunday, Sep 28, 1975: REV J. V. GRAY DIES AT AGE 82-- The Rev. Jamems V. Gray, former chaplain of the Oklahoma House and Senate, died Saturday in Baptist Medical Center at the age of 82. Mr Gray's death came after a long illness. Mr Gray who lived at 1412 NW 20, served as chaplain of the Oklahoma House and Senate following service as pastor of two churches in Missouri, two in Texas and seven in Oklahoma, the last of which was Elmore City. He served 14 interim pastorates after his retirement from Elmore City. Mr Gray was born in Doyle, OK, and graduated from the University of Oklahoma. He attended William Jewell College and later was principal of Marlow and Ponca City high schools. He was a member of Siloam Masonic Lodge and was past Patron of Bethlehem Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star. Services will be 2 pm Monday at Trinity Baptist Church with interment in Rose Hill Cemetery directed by Guardian Funeral Home. Survivors include his wife, Ione; two daughters, Mrs Florine Crockett, OKC; and Mrs Anne Sullivan of Heavener; a son, James J. of OKC; four sisters, Mrs Katherine McIntire of OKC; Mrs Ada Pantelo of Denver; Mrs Lillian Raines and Mrs Sue Nabours, both of Marlow; a brother, John David of Marlow; 10 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. Memorials may be donated to the Baptist Children's Home or to the Heart Fund. ∼ WWI draft registration: James V Gray, b.
