Sherman County Times April 17, 1940: Services Held For Sylvester Bals Sylvester Bals, son of Theodore and Anna Bals, was born at Crete, Neb., November 9, 1919, and passed away at the Loup City hospital April 13, 1940, at the age of 20 years, five months and four days. Sylvester had been in failing health for the past two years. He attended the Loup City high school and made many friends in the community in which he lived. He leaves to mourn his passing his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Theodore Bals; four brothers, Harold, Donald, Loren and Earl; two sisters, Reatha and Maxine; his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Bals; all of Loup City; and his grandmother, Mrs. Chris Kempkes of Crete, and many other relatives. Funeral services were held April 17 at 8 o'clock a.m. at St. Josaphat's church, with Father Steve Kraus officiating. Interment was in the Catholic cemetery. Pallbearers were Delvin Kingston of Arcadia, Maynard and Merving Norseen, Roy Wooden and Harold Rademacher.
