Son of Theodore & Anna (Kempkes) Bals. Military: U.S. Marine Corps, 1951 - 1953. Married: June 5, 1954, to Elizabeth Beran in Loup City. She died July 3, 1977. Moved with his first wife to Grand Island; was employed by Coleman Industries, then by New Holland. Married: Oct. 17, 1978, to Catherine (Beran) Gancos in Kearney. Moved with second wife moved to Odessa; worked at New Holland in Lexington until it closed, then for Triad Industries in Alda. Was employed at Inter-Motion in Kearney for 15 years, had retired in September. Activities: member of the church in Kearney, American Legion Post 52 in Kearney, the Eagles in Grand Island, and the Knights of Columbus in Kearney and Grand Island. Survivors include wife; son, Mark of Overton; daughter, Laurie Schnacker of Elm Creek; brothers, Harold of Loup City and Earl of Ravenna; sister, Reatha Lewis of Crete; 12 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and stepdaughters, Ann Gould and June Nelson, both of Odessa. Was preceded in death by first wife, an infant son, two brothers and a sister.
