Bio
Jeannine Mae Cockson Opp, 69, died May 14, 2011, at BryanLGH West Medical Center in Lincoln. Jeannine was born April 15, 1942, in Grand Island, Neb., the second of eight children born to Alvin and Mary (Walsh) Cockson. Jeannine lived her entire life in Nebraska, except for a brief time as a young child in Burlington, Iowa, and Dallas, Texas, when her father's employment took the family there. She spent the remainder of her childhood and young adult life in Hall County living in Alda, Grand Island and Doniphan. She attended Blessed Sacrament Elementary School and was a graduate of Central Catholic High School, both in Grand Island. In the late 1960s and early 1970s she was employed by the Cornhusker Army Ammunition Plant in Grand Island, where she met her future husband, Robert Opp of Wood River. After their marriage they lived near Wood River on the Opp family farm until Robert's death in 2002. Jeannine and Robert are best remembered by their friends and family for their love of dancing. Jeannine was also a bingo enthusiast. Shortly after her husband's death, Jeannine moved to Grand Island and then to Lincoln, where she resided until her death. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, her sister, Marcia, and brother, Daniel, and nephew, Ryan Cockson. Jeannine is survived by: siblings, Kathleen Bennett of Highlands Ranch, Colo., Michael Cockson of Eden Prairie, Minn., and Rio Verde, Ariz., Deacon David Cockson of Pueblo, Colo., Cheryl Crawford of Purcellville, Va., and Mark Cockson of Fountain Hills, Ariz. She is also survived by 12 nieces and nephews and 13 great-nieces and great-nephews. Interment of cremains was in Westlawn Cemetery in Grand Island, NE.
