Vera D. Mach, 70, of Grand Island died Saturday, July 2, 2011, at Jennie Edmundson Hospital in Council Bluffs, Iowa. Vera was born Feb. 20, 1941, in North Loup to Sam and Maxine (Goldfish) Drawbridge. Vera was preceded in death by her husband, Marvin Mach. Survivors are: mother, Maxine Zulkoski of Grand Island; son and daughter-in-law, Russ and Lori Mach of Chapman; daughter Malisa Danzler; brother and sister-in-law, Charles and Sarah Drawbridge of Calvert, Kent.; sister and brother-in-law, Mary Ann and Gene White of Grand Island; sister-in-law, Juliana Drawbridge; grandchildren, Amanda Mach of Grand Island, Steven Mach of Sioux City, Iowa, and Brett Blackwell of Sioux City, Iowa; and dear friend, Pete Elonich. Vera was raised in North Loup and graduated from North Loup High School in 1959. She was united in marriage to Marvin Mach on Feb. 21, 1960, in Ord. She worked at the newspaper in Ord until the couple moved to Grand Island in 1976. She then went to work for the Veterans Club and Park Place Nursing Home. Vera enjoyed spending time with friends at Grandview Apartments, watching Husker football games, putting together puzzles, playing games and doing crossword puzzles. Vera was a member of Peace Lutheran Church and the VFW Auxiliary. Vera was also preceded in death by her father, Sam; her grandparents, Charles and Margaret Goldfish; brother, Donald; and her stepfather, Norbert Zulkoski. Inurnment was in the Mount Hope Cemetery in Scotia NE. Published in The Grand Island Independent on July 6, 2011
