Bio

Mckinney Democrat April 7, 1925 Former McKinney Girl dies under auto in Accident in Dallas The body of Miss Effie Rice, 17 years old, who was killed in an automobile accident in Dallas Sunday Morning, was brought to McKinney and funeral services held at the Wilson Chapel Church with internment in the Wilson Chapel cemetery at 2:30 Monday. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. West of Farmersville. Funeral services were in the charge of Massie and Sons undertakers. Miss Rice was born and reared in McKinney. She is survived by her Grandmother Lucy Wright, sister Ruby Gist of Phoenix, Arizona and one brother Bush. The following account of the accident is taken from the Monday morning issue of the Dallas News. "Miss Effie Rice, 17 years old, formerly of McKinney, who lived at the Marion Hotel, 502-1-3 Harwood Street, was fatally injured 9:30 o'clock Sunday morning when a small sedan in which she was riding was overturned following a collision with the trailer to a ----car at Ross and Haskell Avenues East Dallas. Miss Rice died a few minutes later at the emergency hospital where she was taken by W.H. Wadsworth, 2531 States Street, who happened to pass the scene of the accident in his car just after the collision. Dr. C. I. Spencer said she sustained a fracture and possible internal injuries. "Take me to a doctor! I'm dying! were said to have been the last words of the young woman" Witnesses told Emrgency Police W. Allen and J Parker that Miss Rice was pinned beneath the wrecked sedan after it was overturned. Police said that T.W. Strong, 4206 Main St. was driving the car in which she was riding. Mr Strong was detained by police on Sunday afternoon, with a formal complaint charging Negliant Homicide against him and bail was set at $1000.00, which was posted by Grady Niblo, attorney after which Strong was released.
