Mass of Christian Burial will be on Wednesday July 6, 2011 at 10:30am at St. Augustine's Catholic Church in St. Cloud for Betty A. Cashman, age 77, of St. Cloud, who passed away peacefully on June 30, 2011 at the St. Cloud Hospital. Rev. Tony Oelrich will officiate. Burial will be in Assumption Cemetery. Family and friends may call on Tuesday, July 5 between 4:00-8:00 PM at the Daniel Funeral Home in St. Cloud, and one hour before the service at St. Augustine's Church. Parish Prayers will be at 6:00 PM. Betty was born January 19, 1934 in Mitchell, SD to John and Sylvie (Scheinost) Carr. She married Peter Cashman on June 13, 1959 at Holy Family Catholic Church in Mitchell, SD. She lived in St. Cloud all of her married life. She was an exceptional teacher who loved children. She taught grade school classes in Denver, CO, Redwood Falls, MN, and in St Cloud. She also taught at Gaetz Nursery School in St. Cloud for many years. She was instrumental in starting the HeadStart Program in the St. Cloud area. After many years of teaching pre-school and primary school aged children she moved on to teach young adults in the Child Development Program at the St. Cloud Technical College until she retired in 1993. After she retired she spent countless hours volunteering for various organizations and tutoring students at St. Augustine's Grade School and Ann's ABC Playhouse. Students at both schools fondly referred to her as "Grandma Betty". Betty was a generous, kind hearted and patient woman. She loved her family and her dog Candy. She enjoyed shopping, cleaning, travelling with family and friends, and attending her grandchildrens' many activities. In her later years she stated that her grandchildren were the most important part of her life. She was a member of St. Augustine's Catholic Church, St. Cloud Retired Educators Association of MN, Retired Educators Association of MN, Mended Hearts, and Delta Kappa Gamma Society International. She is survived by her children, William (Cherolyn) of St. Cloud, Daniel J. (Laura) of Indian Hills, CO, and Ann (Dennis) Herold of St. Cloud; 9 grandchildren, Stephanie, Calvin and Micaila Herold; Patrick, Katlyn and Aidan Cashman; and Taylor, Jordan and Hailey Lothert; brother John Carr of Buffalo, WY, sister Patricia Bellinghiere of West Lake Village, CA., and ten nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Peter, her husband of 51 years, and her daughter in law Tammy (Smith) Cashman. The family would like to thank the staff and residents of the Country Manor Villa where Betty resided for the past 19 months. The comfort, support and friendship she experienced at the Villa, especially after Peter passed away in October of 2010, was treasured by Betty. Memorials are preferred to St. Augustine's Catholic Grade School or the National Parkinsons Foundation.
