James H. (sic) Hutchison, 24, born Neb., son of E. & R. (Roberts) Hutchinson (sic), and Miss Lillie Grooms, 19, born Neb., daughter of A. & M. (Haley) Grooms, were married April 15, 1908 at Valentine by Chas. E. Connell. James Hutchison and Miss Lillie Grooms were married Wednesday by Judge Layport. The groom is the son of E.L. Hutchison of Penbrook and the bride is the daughter of A.W. Grooms of northeast of town. They expect to begin life together over in S.D., where Mr. Hutchison has a position running a ranch. ======================== Valentine Newspaper (Valentine, NE), Friday, April 17, 1908; pg. 5 LOCAL NEWS PARAGRAPHS James H. (sic) Hutchison and Miss Lillie Grooms were married in this city at the M. E. parsonage Wednesday, April 15, 1908, Rev. C.E. Connell officiating. These young people are well and favorably known, having resided near Sparks many years. It is their intention to reside at Dallas, South Dakota, where the groom had removed previous to taking unto himself a better half. With their many friends THE REPUBLICAN joins in extending congratulations and best wishes. ======================= Valentine Newspaper (Valentine, NE), Friday, April 26, 1935; pg. 1 Mrs. Hutchison Dies Mrs. James Hutchison died Wednesday at her farm home near St. Francis, S. D., after a long illness from an incurable disease. Mrs. Hutchison was a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. A. W. Grooms, and was born at their farm home in the Sparks neighborhood. She would have been 47 years old on the 18th of June. Funeral services were held at the home this forenoon, under charge of Undertaker Wilkinson, and interment will be at Sparks this afternoon. ====================== Cherry County News (Valentine, NE), Thursday, May 2, 1935; pg. 1 OBITUARY Lillie Mae (Grooms) Hutchison Lillie Mae Grooms was born at Sparks, Nebraska, June 18th, 1888 and departed this life at her home in Todd County, South Dakota, April 24th 1935, at the age of 46 years, 10 months, and 6 days. Her childhood was spent with her parents on a farm northeast of Valentine. On the 15th of April, 1908, she was united in marriage to James Hutchison. During the early years of her married life she resided near Norden and near Valentine, Nebraska. In 1913 she with her husband and family moved to a farm in South Dakota, where she made her home until death took her from her loved ones. To her were born nine children, one of whom, Aaron, passed away in infancy, and eight survive to mourn with their father, her death. Surviving are: Mrs. Marguerite Barlow, Mrs. Mike Wempe of Norris, South Dakota; Martha, who is attending high school at Mission, South Dakota; Eileen and Irene, James, Lillie Mae and Bonnie Jo at home. She is survived by her father Aaron Grooms of Valentine, three sisters, Mrs. John Shelbourn, Mrs. Clarence Cyphers and Mrs. Roydon Ganow, one grandchild, and other relatives in addition to a host of friends. Before her marriage she attended school in Valentine, later teaching the home school for one year. Mrs. Hutchison was a devoted Christian mother, ever thoughtful of the welfare of her husband and family. She was a splendid neighbor and was greatly loved. When she left the little home To dwell in heavenly bowers, She left behind a heritage )f tireless days and hours. A funeral service was held Friday at the home south of St. Francis at 10:00 o'clock in the morning. Another service at 3:00 o'clock in the afternoon at Sparks, Rev. Hanscom officiating. Interment was in the Sparks cemetery (sic).
