Altha LaVeen Hicks Orrock, 95, of Salt Lake City, passed away on June 24, 2011 of causes incident to age. Born May 21, 1916, LaVeen, the oldest daughter of Archibald Hicks and Beulah Matilda Robinson, was born and grew up in Joseph, Utah. LaVeen attended South Sevier High School, where she excelled in drama and public speaking. LaVeen loved to write and she will be especially remembered for her beautiful and distinctive handwriting. LaVeen was a devoted mother and grandmother. She was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. She fulfilled numerous church callings during her life. All those who cared for LaVeen during her later years commented on her delightful sense of humor. LaVeen will be greatly missed by her family and friends. LaVeen is preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Clair Orrock; daughter, Kathleen Ellibee; step-daughter, Anna Lou Seely; and three siblings, John Archie Hicks, Olive Poulson, and Robert Odell Hicks. LaVeen is survived by five children: Janice Louise Anderson, Merilyn Wilkerson, Merideth Karsch, Stanton Lloyd Nelson, Susan Sandoval; four step-children: Beverly Tadehara, Elaine Harris, Lucille Christensen, Donna Kisseliss; a sister, Dorothy Bridges; a brother, Max Joel Hicks; and twenty-one grandchildren and thirty-six great-grandchildren. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, June 30, 2011 at Holbrook Mortuary, 3251 South 2300 East, where friends and family may attend a viewing on Wednesday, evening, June 29, 2011 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. and Thursday morning prior to the funeral services from 9:30-10:45 a.m. Burial will follow in the Redwood Memorial Estates Cemetery, 6500 South Redwood Road (1700 West).
