Charles C. Bateman, 81, retired employee of the Utah-Idaho Sugar Co., died at his home at 821 10th St. shortly after noon Thursday following a stroke. He was born May 8, 1880, at Alpine, Utah, to Joseph and Mary Allen Bateman. He received his elementary education at Alpine. He was married to Amy Burnham, Sept. 20, 1905, at Blackfoot. He came to Idaho Falls in 1903, to help build the Utah-Idaho Sugar plant at Lincoln. He was employed by them until his retirement in 1918. Then he worked several campaign seasons for a total of more than 50 years. Mr. and Mrs. Bateman celebrated Sept. 20, 1961 as their 56th wedding anniversary. Besides his widow, he is survived by the following sons and daughters: Edward C. Bateman of Anchorage, Alaska; Mrs. Carl (Wanda) Westerberg, Ucon; Mrs. Phil (Betty) sheridan of Los Angeles, Calif.; and Linden F. Bateman, Mrs. Lynn (Lela) Ward, Charles W. Bateman, and Mrs. Charles (JoAnne) Farrer, all of Idaho Falls; 21 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. Preceding him in death was a daughter, Mrs. Virgie Arave.
