No death date on stone, info found on Ancestry.com, Social Security Death Index & Obit. ------------------------ Bessie Jewell Cook was the daughter of Avie Gertrude Cook & her first husband Elmore Ragland. Her parents were married on July 4, 1908 in Titus Co., Texas. Bessie was born later that year and then Elmore Ragland died shortly thereafter. Avie Gertrude Cook Ragland appeared as a widow living with her parents on the 1910 Texas Census in Titus Co., JP 5. However, baby Bessie was not listed on the census with her mother Avie. Avie remarried in 1911 to Lars Love. She had several children and then was widowed again in 1926. Avie went on to marry 3 more times (and divorce) and had a child from each of those marriages. Meanwhile, Bessie was raised by Avie's parents and she took her maternal grandparents' surname of "Cook". Bessie appeared on the 1920 Texas Census, Titus Co., JP 4, living in the household of her maternal grandparents W. J & Ellen Cook. Bessie was listed as a granddaughter. Bessie Jewell Cook married John Waylon Andrews on Dec. 26, 1925. They had several sons and then divorced. Bessie remarried to Gus W. Carlisle on March 18, 1946. When her half-brother, Wheeler Love, died in 1977, his obituary listed Bessie as a surviving sister (Mrs. Bessie Carlisle). ------------------------- Obituary for Bessie Jewell Cook Andrews Carlisle in The Odessa American Newspaper (Odessa, Ector Co., Texas) published Wednesday, Nov. 24, 1999: Bessie Carlisle KERMIT — Bessie Carlisle, 91, of Kermit, a homemaker, died Tuesday, Nov. 23, 1999, at Winkler County Memorial Hospital.
