Phyliss Swanson, 79, of Monroe, Nebraska, died Monday, June 6, 2011, at Butler County Health Care Center in David City, Nebraska. The funeral service will be held 2:30 PM Friday, June 10, 2011, at Grace Lutheran Church in Platte Center with Rev. Mike Stockmeyer officiating. The burial will be in Columbus Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Thursday from 4 PM to 7 PM at Gass Haney Funeral Home. Visitation will resume on Friday one hour prior to the service at church. Phyliss was born April 14, 1932 in Butler County to Leo P. and Caroline (Zima) Medinger. She attended rural Butler County school and graduated from Fullerton High School in 1948. On January 1, 1951, she was united in marriage to Dolend K. Swanson in St. Edward, Nebraska. They farmed near Albion for several years. They lived in Columbus for a short time and they have lived in Monroe for the past 40 years. Phyllis worked at B-D for 35 years. She was a member of B-D alumni, the B-D bowling league, she enjoyed baking, gardening and being with her family. Phyliss is survived by Husband: Dolend Swanson of Monroe, NE Son: Kenneth (Diane) Swanson of Monroe, NE Granddaughter: Christina Behrens (significant other - Marco Velecela) of Monroe, NE Grandson: Greg Swanson (significant other - Susie Yeager) of Monroe, NE Three great-grandchildren Brother: Dean Medinger of Grand Island, NE Sister: Carol Hahn of Lincoln, NE Sister: Delores Faulhaber of Papillion, NE Brother: Clayton (Cindy) Medinger of Fullerton, NE Sister: Donna (Donald) Swanson of Eagle, NE She is preceded in death by Parents: Leo and Caroline Medinger Son: Robert Swanson Granddaughter: Lisa Swanson Three brothers: Norman Medinger, Gary Medinger, and LaWayne Medinger
