Dr. Ferguson Dies at 83; Ex-City Schools Chief Dr. Arthur W. Ferguson, superintendent of York City Schools from 1930 to 1955; died at Colonial Manor Nursing Home today, October 5, 1973 Dr. Ferguson, 83, was the husband of Mary Wells Ferguson. Born in Philadelphia, son of the late William A. and Carrie Lake Ferguson, he was superintendent of schools at Swarthmore, Pa., and taught in Wilkes-Barre schools before coming to York. Ferguson Elementary School bears his name. Dr. Ferguson received his master's degree from the University of Pennsylvania in 1912; master of education degree from Lafayette College and doctorate from the University of Pennsylvania in 1924. In addition to his widow, he leaves a son, William W. Ferguson; a brother W. Byron Ferguson., and a sister Mrs. Wallace Weaver. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church. Funeral services will be held Monday at the John Calvin Memorial Chapel of the First Presbyterian Church. The Rev. John T. Galloway, his pastor, will officiate. Burial will be in Meshoppen Cemetery, Meshoppen, Wyoming County. The family suggests that memorial contributions b e made to the Ferguson Memorial Scholarship Fund in York.
