Father-Melvin Ardis Gant Mother-Alma Hensley Funeral services for Melvin "Sonny" Gant, 70, were held Thursday, June 6, 2002, from the Cochran Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. Don Wilkey officiating. Burial followed in Bold Springs Cemetery. Mr. Gant died Monday, June 3, in Conroe Regional Medical Center. He was born Oct. 20, 1931 in McKinney, the son of Melvin Ardis Gant and Alma Hinsley Gant, both of whom preceded him in death. Mr. Gant was a member of the First Baptist Church in Onalaska. He and the former Betty Joyce Huckabay were married on Dec. 3, 1971 in Pasadena. Mr. Gant served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean Conflict. Survivors include his wife, Betty; daughters and sons-in-law, Kimen Metzger of Houston, Beverly and Craig Garland of Ennis, Linda Pritchard of Houston, and Karen and Richard Yates of Kilgore; sons and daughters-in-law, Kevin and Becky Sherman of Willis and Michael and Margaret Gant of Forreston; 14 grandchildren; one great-grandchild and sister, Shirley Phillips of McKinney.
