Bio

Isaac was the son of James H. Ripley and Polly Henry. He married Nancy Crews in Hawkins County, Tennessee on 07 March 1842. They had at least 8 children together. The family left Tennessee and settled in Texas in 1846. From "Biographical Souvenir of Texas" written in 1889: "Isaac Ripley was born in Botetourt Co. Virginia. He is the son of James H. Ripley, a native of Bedford County Virginia..." "He began active life at farming in Hawkins County, Tennessee. He removed to Texas in 1846 and added stock raising to his trade. Ripley served a short time in the Confederate Army during the War Between the States but was discharged on account of over age."
