A. E. "Tony" Whitten A. E. "Tony" Whitten, 84, formerly of Dallas, died early Saturday, May 28, 2011, after a short illness. Mr. Whitten was born, August 25, 1926, in Dallas, Texas to John Kirk Whitten and Bertha Mable Reeves Whitten. He graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School in 1943. He served active duty in World War II on the USS Bataan and in the Korean Conflict. He was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Ann Brecheen Whitten. Mr. Whitten is survived by his son, of Georgia; 2 daughters, of Texas; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Mr. Whitten retired from the Dallas Police Department in 1977 and upon his retirement became Executive Security with Mercantile National Bank. He was a lifetime member of East Grand Baptist Church. During his retirement years, he traveled to various countries serving in construction ministries with the Texas Baptist Men. Visitation will be Monday, May 30, 2011 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Grand View Baptist Church in Mesquite. Funeral services will be at 2:00 PM, Tuesday at the Grand View Baptist Church under the direction of Coker-Mathews Funeral Home with Mark Grissom officiating. Interment will follow at Grove Hill Memorial Park in Dallas. The family requests memorials be made to: Assist the Officers Foundation, www.atodallas.org.
