Rev Wade Wayman Wight "WWW" Hampton was born in Memphis, Tennessee on September 4th 1839. His father was Jno Hampton and his mother Charlotte Ann Hampton but not much more is known about them. He was then brought up in Parker County Texas after living for a time in Mississippi. His family as most were farmers. In his youth and before the War, Wade had been a Texas Ranger. He was married three times. His first wife was; Caroline Holder (1847-1865). She was only 13 when they married in 1860. Wade was 25. She was the daughter of; Nathan Holder (1823-1865), and Martha Livingston Holder Alexander (1824-1909). They married young back then. People thought nothing of it. She bore him 2 children; 1. John William Hampton (1861-1927) 2. S.A. Betty Hampton (1864-1865) She also lost her father Nathan Holder, who died a Confederate POW in Union Prison Elmira, NY, near the end of the Civil War. Sadly Caroline and Baby Betty also died that year in 1865. Caroline was only 18 years old. Wade's marriage to her lasted 5 years, but most of those would be during the war and he would be away from home. He would write her letters to keep her hopes high, but at times had to send bad news of injury or death of others close to them so that their families would know. Life had to move on after Caroline so he re-married. WWW was also a Confederate soldier who fought along side Nathan or at least nearby. He was a Private in Capt H E Bradford 's Company in the Company F, 6th Texas Infantry from 1861-1865. 1865 was a hard year for them. During the War WWW was severly wounded by a bomb shell blast that blew him 30 feet in the air. He could no longer fight and went home in 1864. He had to use crutches for several years after that and on and off the rest of his life and never fully recovered from his wounds and walked with a serious limp because of it the rest of his life. His wounds were side to contribute to his death years later. His second wife was widow woman; Mary Elizabeth Jackson Medart , (1832-1886). She needed a husband and father for her 7 children from her 15 year marriage to George Washington Medart Sr (1826-1864). Their children, now his step-children were; 3. Thomas Jefferson Medart (1850-1919) 4. James M Medart (1854-1878) 5. Martha Catherine Medart Black (1858-1879) 6. William Levi Medart (1856-1886) 7. Hugh Elisha Medart (1860-1895) 8. Charles B. Medart (1862-1944) 9. Amanda A. Medart Highsmith (1864-1907) Mary Elizabeth and Wade had the following 6 children; 10. Mary Ann Hampton Russell (1866-1950) 11. David Gray Hampton (1868-1950) 12. Matilda Jane Hampton Curb (1869-1948) 13. Virginia Caroline Hampton Tasker (1873-1946) 14. Michael Wade Hampton (1875-1946) 15. Susan Irene Hampton (1875-1876) Big families were helpful on a farm back then and concidered a blessing. It may sound harsh but not all were expected to live to adulthood do to harsh life back then. Illness, drought and other weather conditions we concider nothing now would easily kill then. They would be married almost 21 years when she passed away at age 53. Up to this point along with being Twice Married, Twice Widowed, Father of 8, Step-Father of 7, (13 living to adulthood), Texas Ranger, Disabled Civil War Veteran, and Farmer, Wade was also a Baptist Preacher and then later became a Methodist Minister. This fella was a jack of all trades. It was said he was very successful at the pulpit due to his convincing sermans, which bore the truth of his seasoned belief in God and Jesus as the Lord Our Christ. With his belief in the Lord, his experience and endurance through the years of hardbreaks of deaths were made more tolerable. This gave him all he needed to pass on what was true for him to others. He could tell a good joke when the time came right also as fun was needed at times to relieve worn down, or over worked raw souls. People may have seen his humor lurking just behind his smiling face, and glimering eyes giving them that expected comforting moment of a good sinker or better yet a good belly laugh. Wade married his 3rd and final wife was; Sally F. Bennett (1849 - ??). They married in 1887, and would be married 24 years but that all I know about her. This was in their later years and they did not have children together, but would have their hands full with a few children at home still and grandchildren. Grandchildren while he was alive; 1. George W "Bud" Medart (1872-1945) 2. William T Medart (1876-1947) 3. Charles E Medart (1877-1945) 4. William Jefferson "Bill" Medart (1877-1949) 5. Mary Nancy Medart Kinsey (1878-1969) 6.
