Bio

Mrs. Francis Jane Fleming, wife of Rev. L. A. Fleming, a member of Iowa conference, came to the end of her journey at their home in Edmond, Oklahoma, April 18. She had suffered much for many weeks, ministered to by her husband and members of the family. Her end came as a comforting surcease from her pain, and she fell asleep in the loving embrace of her unwavering faith and trust in the Lord. She was born in Keokuk county, Iowa, August 22, 1866, and had lived most of her life in Iowa. Three years ago her husband retired from the active work in Iowa, having just closed a happy pastorate at Adaville. For forty-seven years Reverend Fleming has labored in the ministry, and in that time has served many charges of the old Des Moine conference, later merges into the Iowa State conference. His service has always been distinguished by its kindliness and fervent spirit and has been blessed with much fruit and many blessed satisfactions. Mrs. Fleming was a real helper and especially in the evangelistic labors of her husband proved herself on many fields as indefatigable worker and a successful colaborer. She thus won many friends in Iowa who will be saddened by her death. Going to Oklahoma three years ago they lived comfortably at the beautiful town of Edmond where they were near two of their daughters. Through all her suffering she held an undaunted courage, faith, and radiance of spirit which even her last hours did not dim. She was a loving mother and notably kind in her lifelong relation to her children. The funeral service, held in the First Presbyterian church of Edmond was very largely attended. The floral offerings were supassingly beautiful. A male quartet furnished three wonderful selections, the Presbyterian pastor assisted in the service, and she was tenderly laid away in the local cemetery of Edmond, attractive and well kept and abundant with flowers and shrubbery. She leave to mourn her devoted husband, Rev. L. A. Fleming; one son, W. F. Fleming, Henderson, Iowa; four daughters, Mrs. J. L. McGill, Edmond, Mrs. H. S. McGill, Edmond, Mrs. George Weese, Carrol, Iowa, and Mrs. A. W. Lamb, Des Moines, Iowa. A daughter-in-law, Mrs. Harry Fleming, whose husband died two years ago, also was present at the funeral, and quite a group of grandchildren.--A. B. Statton, Bishop published by "Religious Telescope," May 12, 1934 About four years prior to her death she had undergone a mastectomy for breast cancer. She was preceded in death by an infant son, Floyd Loyal Fleming (1901-1903), son Harry, and daughter, Flossie Fleming Gregory Baldozier.
