AL M RUGGLESS DIES IN AMES Burial at Dunlap April 12 Al McDonald Ruggless, 2527 Kellogg Avenue, Ames, Iowa, died April 9, 1969 at Mary Greeley Hospital in Ames after suffering a stroke at his home the previous evening. He was born May 13, 1905 in Columbus, Nebraska, to Marion and Melissa Brandenburg Ruggless. His boyhood was spent in Adel where he graduated from high school. In 1931 he moved to Ames to work for the Iowa State Highway Commission where he has since resided. He was District No. 1 Foreman for the Commission. He was a member of the Methodist Church; a charter member of the Ames Elks Lodge and a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He served on Guadalcanal during World War II as a member of the Seabees. Survivors include his wife, Margaret Howorth Ruggless and one son, Ren, at home, and two sisters. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and two sisters. Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m., April 12, 1969 from Stevens Memorial Chapel in Ames with the Rev. Wilton Grant of Collins (his nephew) officiating. Graveside rites were held by the Rev. Carl Fetterman of Dunlap, with burial in Pleasant Hill Cemetery at Dunlap. Out of town relatives and friends attending the Duncan service were Ren, Steven and John Howorth of Norton, Kansas; G. Burton Kelly of Logan' Mr. and Mrs. Joe Roberts of Omaha; Mr. and Mrs. Gene Saunders of Manilla; Mrs. Esther Waldman of Boone' Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Gilbert of Huxley; Linda Compton, Mr. and Mrs. Bert Anderson, and Mr. and Mrs. Ed Reinberger, all of Ames; and Mr. and Mrs. Willard B. Adams of Des Moines. Published in The Dunlap Reporter (Dunlap, Iowa) on Thursday, April 24, 1969. NOTE: Mr. Ruggless was married to Margaret Viola Howorth. She was born in Iowa on June 19, 1907 in Iowa and died August 4, 1980 in California. She was the daughter of Lorenzo Dow Howorth and Altha Jane Roberts . Her burial location is unknown at this time (11/8/2021).
