From The Palmer Journal, August 15, 1940, page 1, transcribed by Linda Berney: Anton Pohl was born at Gothenburg, Nebraska, January 5, 1893 and passed away at a hospital in Grand Island on August 7, 1940 at the age of 47 years, 8 months. He spent most of his life farming near Gothenburg. In 1935 he came to Merrick county where he resided in the Archer neighborhood, making his home with his cousin, Lewis Mazones, part of the time. Mr. Pohl died as the result of serious injuries to his back about two weeks ago while working on a car, the front end of which was hoisted to a tree limb. The hoist slipped allowing the car to fall on him. He leaves to mourn, five brothers, Fabian, Roy and Arthur of Gothenburg, Charles of Aurora, Nebraska, and Pete at Sand Point, Idaho, four sisters, Marie H. Monson of Los Angeles, California, Lucille Armstrong, Modesto, Calif., Esther Armstrong at Bellingham, Washington and Ann Pohl at Hastings, many other relatives and friends. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. H. G. Darling, of the Christian church, at the Nicholas funeral parlor at 2 P.M. on the 8th day of August, interment being in the Palmer cemetery.
