Dennis F. Obermiller, 65, of Loup City, died Thursday, May 12, 2011, at his home. Dennis was born on July 10, 1945, at Loup City, the son of Fritz H. and Nora O. (Ritz) Obermiller. Dennis is survived by his wife, Deb Obermiller of Loup City; daughters, Kerri and Mark Morrow of Ashton, Melissa Obermiller and her partner, Lara Suarez of Colorado Springs, CO and Denise and Kyle Sheffield of Farnam; granddaughters, Madeline Morrow, Emily Morrow, Isabel Morrow, Nora Obermiller, Hallee Sheffield, Jozzee Sheffield, Maci Kalsbeck and Moli Kalsbeck; brothers and sister-in-law, Doug and Chris Obermiller and Roger Obermiller, all of Loup City; sisters and brothers-in-law, Dee and Larry Cox of Kansas City, MO and Nancy and Jerry Rowe of Fort Collins, CO; his father-in-law, Orren W. Wood of Greeley and a host of relatives and friends. Dennis grew up on the family farm north of Loup City and attended Loup City Public Schools, graduating from Loup City High School in 1963. Dennis served in the U.S. Army as a heavy vehicle driver from Jan. 19, 1966 to Jan. 11, 1968. He married Patty Oltman and they had two children Mindy and Lance. The couple later divorced. Dennis was united in marriage to Deb Wood on July 21, 1979. The couple lived their entire married life in the Loup City area. Dennis worked as a farm laborer for Don Kaminski, for Ken and Diane Loeffelbein as a mechanic and in farming and ranching. He also worked for Trotter Service as a heavy equipment operator and at Westside Park as a maintenance engineer. Dennis was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church and the American Legion Post No. 48, both of Loup City. In his younger years he liked to camp, boat and ski. He loved playing with his granddaughters, family gatherings, grilling and Cornhusker football. Dennis was a 29 year member of Alcoholics Anonymous and had helped sponsor many people over the years. He was an all around great guy that loved to help his fellow man. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. Dennis was preceded in death by his parents, Fritz and Nora Obermiller; and his mother-in-law, Catherine Wood.
