Bio

John Arthur "Sonny" Hagar, Jr. was the son of Ellen Elizabeth (Dupree) Reeves and John Arthur Hagar, Sr. He married Lydia Ann "Liddy' Pharis in 1880. They were the parents of John Thomas Hagar born 14 Aug 1888 and Mary Ellen Hagar (LeBleu) born 17 Nov 1895. Sonny had a prostate operation on 2 Apr 1923 at St. Patrick's Hospital/Sanatarium in Lake Charles. He died from a subsequent infection on 8 May 1923 in the hospital. At the time of his death, he was a resident of Bear (near Ragley), Beauregard Parish, LA. According to a newspaper article, he was 66 years, 6 months, and 20 days old, making his birth date 18 Oct 1956 (the headstone is incorrect).
