Bio

Ellen Elizabeth Reeves was the daughter of Wyatt Dupree (her sister Jane's husband) and Nancy Ann Bilbo. However, she was raised by her stepfather, Isham Reeves. She was born in a part of Washington Co, MS that is now in Alabama. Her family moved to Old Imperial Calcasieu Parish, LA about 1831. (Read the memorial of Nancy Ann Bilbo Reeves for more information on Ellen's parentage). She met and married John Arthur Hagar about 1850. Their children included: Mary Ann Hagar (Farque) 10/23/1850, Jessie H. Hagar 7/15/1852, Joseph Hagar 10/31/1854-3/4/1855, William H. "Babe" Hagar 12/10/1855, John Arthur "Sonny" Hagar, Jr. 11/20/1857, Devalla Hagar 12/20/1859 - 10/30/1867, Leona Mae Hagar (Williams Burnett) 1/25/1862, James H. Hagar 11/30/1864, Sarah W. Hagar (Watson) 4/11/1868, Martha Hagar 12/16/1870 - 10/31/1885, and Nancy Ellen Hagar (Parker) 3/14/1873. Ellen Elizabeth smoked a small clay pipe. She put the tobacco in the pipe and stooped over to get a coal out of the fire to light her pipe. She lost her balance and fell in the fire. It is said she was "a large fat woman." Her husband tried to pull her out of the fire but he was small and thin and could not lift her. He ran to his son William's house and said, "Come quick, Grandma is burned bad." They ran back to the house but she was burned so badly that she was already dead. PLEASE DO NOT COPY THIS TO ANCESTRY OR OTHER WEBSITES
