Morelle Herzinger, 72, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away May 3, 2011. Morelle was born on Nov. 24, 1938 in Beemer, Nebraska to Rudolph and Helen Herzinger. Morelle met his future wife Sandra (Ott) in 1956, were married in 1960, and celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary last August with many friends and relatives. They have two sons, Craig and Kurt. Morelle was the youngest of four boys. He attended grades 1-8 in a one-room school house near their home and graduated from Beemer High School in 1956. Morelle continued his education by receiving a Bachelor of Arts from Nebraska Wesleyan in 1959, a Masters of Arts in secondary education from UNL in 1962, and a Masters of Science in library science from the University of Illinois in 1968. His professional life focused on teaching. He taught for two years in Pawnee City, Nebraska. He also taught and coached in Mansfield, Illinois for three years. Morelle and Sandra moved back to Nebraska in 1965 where he taught in the Lincoln Public Schools system, the last 30 years at Goodrich Junior High. He held a variety of positions ranging from media specialist, social studies teacher, and creator of a program for at-risk students. Through his lifetime Morelle had many interests and hobbies including gardening, reading, candle making, knitting, making and decorating cookies, traveling, woodworking, and singing in the men's chorus at church. He was also a licensed bird bander that permitted him to band thousands of birds around the state and through Chet Ager Nature Center. Morelle is survived by his wife Sandra, his two sons, one daughter-in-law, one granddaughter, his three brothers, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents. Visitation will be Thursday from 6-8pm with the family present at the funeral home. Funeral will be Friday, May 6, 2011 @ Christ United Methodist Church at 1:00pm. Burial will follow at Lincoln Memorial Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to Christ United Methodist Church.
